We are all familiar with the word cybercrime nowadays. In the last few years, the number of cybercrimes in India has skyrocketed, which has raised concerns among the general public as well as cyber security experts. Phishing attacks are at the top of the list of the most feared cyber attacks.

This type of attack leaks all the personal details of the users online and as a result, they are likely to fall victim to large-scale cyber fraud. Many well-known companies have already been the victims of phishing attacks, and GoDaddy Inc has recently been added to that list.

Internet domain registrar and web hosting company GoDaddy Inc said in a statement on Monday evening that on November 18, 2021, the company discovered unauthorized third-party access to Managed WordPress Hosting. It is safe to assume that the company has been the victim of a phishing attack. GoDaddy Inc claims that this could result in the e-mail addresses and customer numbers of around 1.2 million (12 million) active and inactive managed WordPress customers being leaked online.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that by September 6, 2021, hackers could gain access to all users’ data using a compromised password. According to the agency, the password was leaked somehow while it was being set, which led to the incident. That’s why all passwords are being reset.

The domain registrar giant also noted that in the case of active clients, sFTP and database usernames and passwords have been reset by the company due to leaks. Again, the SSL private key of some of the active customers has been revealed online. So the company is in the process of issuing and installing new certificates for all these customers. GoDaddy Inc. also said that all customers affected by the incident are being alerted and will be alerted to the details.
